Two-day Tour of Dongpu Hot Springs

Dongpu is a Bunun aboriginale village near to Yushan (Jade Mountain), and is a major gateway to the Yushan National Park. The village is best known for its hot springs that emerge at a temperature of 48 degrees Celsius from the flank of Mt. Wangxiang. The bicarbonate water here is transparent and pure, and is said to be good for alleviating exhaustion.

After enjoying a relaxing bath in the hot-spring water, you can savor the changing scenery of the different seasons in Dongpu. From January through April the area is filled with blossoms of the plum, cherry, pear, peach, and poinsettia; in September the betel nut trees blossom; and October is the season for the short-style camellia. Rainbow Waterfall, situated on the flank of the mountain behind Dongpu, pours over a cliff more than 30 meters high. It is named for the rainbow that forms when the slanting rays of the sun strike the spray around noontime.

The nearby Alishan Forest Recreation Area, too, offers a large number of places that are well worth a visit: Sisters Pond, Shouzhen Temple, Alishan Sacred Tree, Ciyun Temple, and Three-Generation Trees, among others. The view of the sunrise and sea of clouds from Mt. Zhu is a must. Here you can get a taste of the infinite changes of nature, making a trip to Alishan well worthwhile.

If you want to take a stroll in the mountains, the Tatajia Recreation Area in Yushan National Park is the place for you. The trails here have explanatory plaques telling you all about the area's vegetation, mountains, stream systems, and ecology.
