Sanyi, located in the south of Miaoli County, is known for woodcarving, which has existed here for more than 100 years. If you want to experience the beauty of Sanyi's woodcarving, you must visit the woodcarving street and museum here-- especially the museum, which is the only museum in Taiwan that is centered on the woodcarving theme. The displays include artworks from many foreign countries as well as Taiwan.

In addition to the wood carving, attractions you can see here include the "Westcoast Ecology District", Shengxing Railway Station, Longteng Bridge ruins, Sanyi Train Station, Zhuolan fruit harvest, Miaoli Train Museum, Tai’an Hot Springs, and Yuemei Sugar Plant. Among these spots, the Longteng Bridge ruins are famous as being the highest point on Taiwan’s trunk railway system. The picturesque piers that remain exhibit a masterpiece of the Dutch style of brickwork.

The Shengxing Railway Station is the highest station on the western trunk railway line. Built entirely of wood, the station is unique in form and was built according to the principles of fengshui.
