information in your note!
Shei-Pa National Park is situated in central Taiwan and is occupied primarily with the Xue Mountain range. The two main peaks in the park are Xue Mountain and the world-class Mt. Dabajian, and numerous other peaks here also soar above 3,000 meters. It is natural, therefore, for Shei-Pa to have more mountain-climbing routes than any other national park in Taiwan. The three main places for starting mountain climbs in the park are Guanwu, Miaoli, and Wuling Farm.
The geographic conditions of Shei-Pa National Park are similar to those of Yushan National Park, although its elevation is a bit lower. It is rich in bird species, especially those that inhabit mid-elevation areas, and contains numerous species of flora and fauna that are unique to Taiwan (or even to Shei-Pa) or are endangered. It has, for example, the largest pure high-mountain juniper forests in Taiwan, a kind of balasm which is found nowhere else in the world, the Formosan black bear, and the Formosan land-locked salmon which today exists only in a section of the Qijiawan River, stretching less than five kilometers, in the Wuling area. The land-locked salmon is protected as an endangered species.
The neighboring Guanwu is also a scenic area worth visiting; but this is a restricted area, and a mountain permit is required which application must be made two weeks in advance. This area is famous for its drifting fogs (its name is translated "view the fog") all year round, and it is a fine starting point for enjoying Mt. Dabajian. It offers a large number of forest trails that give access to the Kuaishan Sacred Tree, which is more than 2,000 years old, groves of giant trees, and waterfalls. It is also a good place for watching the sun rise and observing the natural changes of the seasons. The forests are home to large numbers of alpine birds.
Besides enjoying the natural ecology, during your trip to the Shei-Pa area you can also take a hot-spring side trip. The Qingquan Hot Springs in Hsinchu feature clear, odorless carbonate-type water that is said to be good for treating skin diseases, rheumatism, arthritis, digestive ailments, and nervous weakness. It is also believed to make the skin more beautiful and the body slimmer.
