Two-day Tour of Wulai Hot Springs

Wulai is the home of Atayal tribes-people, and here you can observe their traditional dances and rituals; if you're interested, you can join in the dancing. You can also enjoy the sight of a gushing waterfall amidst the lush green landscape, or take an exciting cable-car ride across the gorge.

Wulai is surrounded on all sides by mountains, a place of beauty and alluring tourist attractions including streams, hot springs, waterfalls, cherry blossoms, red maple leaves, birds, butterflies, a cable car, Yunxian Park, motorized rail pushcarts, and indigenous singing and dancing. Its culinary delights include game animal, river fish and shrimp, millet cake, bamboo rice, pepper chicken soup, millet wine, and entire theme banquets. In addition, Wulai exhibits a different atmosphere in each season of the year. During the springtime mountain cherry blossoms fill the hillsides, especially in the months of March and April. Summer is the season for playing water, camping, picnicking, barbecuing, and generally escaping the torrid heat. Autumn is the season for seeing the leaves of plants in the area turn red and yellow, and winter is the perfect season for relaxing and bathing in hot-spring mineral water.

It seems there is no visit to Wulai without a hot-spring bath. The mineral spring water here comes in two types, carbonate and sodium bicarbonate, both of which are believed to be good for beautifying the skin. You can go to a commercially operated resort or a bathing pool;but if you want to save money, you can go to a public pool on the bank of the Nanshi River and enjoy the pleasure of outdoor bathing.

When you visit Wulai, you have three-tour routes to choose from. One takes you to the Wulai Scenic Area, where you can view the waterfall and take the cable car across the gorge to Yunxian Park. The second route covers the Neidong Forest Recreation Area, where you can enjoy the beauties of nature and bask in a "green shower." The third route follows the Tonghou River for seven or eight kilometers, where you can observe mid-elevation bird. Especially during November and December the bird watchers are in for treat. This is an ideal choice for bird watchers with limited time.
