A Multi-Planning Fisherman's Wharf—Enjoy a Wonderful Sight and Have fun in the Wharf! Since the Ming and Qing dynasties, Dongshi Fishing Port has been an important port for fishing vessels in western Taiwan. In early years, the port enjoyed abundant fishery harvests and offered various sea foods nationwide. In recent years, deposition of sediment in the port transform into a tourist fishing port. Dongshi Fishing Port is situated in the estuary of Puzi River at Dongshi Village of Dongshi Township, Chiayi County. The new fisherman's wharf in which fishing port facilities have been built is 1.5-km away from the old port. The new fisherman's wharf has now become one best place for fellows to take a walk and enjoy the beautiful ocean view. Changes from the fish market where the daily auction of fish harvesting of the current day starts at 14:00 p.m. to production and marketing center extended to the wooden path beside embankment along the seashore are surprising in Dongshi Fishing Port. Especially the seafront scene view recreation area, a wooden trail allows visitors to take a magnificent view of Taiwan Straits as they please. A tourist fishing raft passing through at times has been the most classic scene for a fishing village. Couples of lovers sitting on recreational chairs couples whisper closely and intimately under rosy clouds during sunset is a frequent scene. This recreation center naturally offers parents and children a good place for having a frolic. A water area built in this seafront recreation park is hugely popular with children. The best part is a spectacular corner in the park in which a number of lifelike sculptures exquisitely carved erected feature scenes of dragging nets and ropes that seem to be in dynamic motion. Enjoy the gourmet cuisine in the magnificent café built beside the port. A great sense of design of this café adopts the transparent glass dome by exquisitely bringing sunlight into the café that will lead visitors to a feeling of warm sunshine despite being inside the café. The planning of Dongshi Fisherman's Wharf takes elements of wind, sunshine, fish, boat, ocean, and lighthouse to represent multiple ocean views that reshapes the image of fishing port and Holland-style entrance image. Dongshi Fisherman's Wharf hopes to promote its popular attractions with resources of fresh sea foods and beautiful sunset, harbor landscape, cultural features, leisure and recreation, and natural and ecological resources to build the peculiar thematic image to create one tourist beachhead of thematic features to boost local economic development. Major facilities of Dongshi Fisherman's Wharf include Oceanic Culture Museum, Specialty Museum, Shopping bazaar, Ocean View Pavilion, Floating-Bridge Market, and coastal walk, and the wharf also combines the original infrastructures of the fishing port to offer multiple services.
