When visiting Tainan, visitors can see and enjoy the many remnants of the past in this old city. A tour of such sites as: Chihkan Tower, Official God of War Temple, Mazu Temple, Confucian Temple, Koxinga Shrine, Sanshan Guowang Temple, Kaiyuan Temple, Old Fort of Anping, and Eternal Fortress allows visitors to get a feeling of times gone by. It also gives them ample opportunity to satisfy their appetite.
There are numerous famous snacks in Tainan. For example, the coffin-like sandwich called "coffin board," the braised pork noodles developed by fishermen to ease their way through the slack fishing season; "potside stickers," rice paste baked into soft pancakes on the side of hot pots, then cooked into thick soup. Other snacks include glutinous rice dumplings, salty rice pudding, eel noodles, Taiwanese meatballs, spearfish thick soup, glutinous rice cakes, floating fish soup, pyramid dumplings, and fish congee, all available in the Xiaobei Road Night Market and China Town.
At night, visitors can roam in National Cheng Kung University's Guangfu Campus to enjoy the tranquil night of southern Taiwan. They can also go shopping and buy gifts for friends and relatives in the Far Eastern Department Store near Zhongzheng Road or in the night market on Minsheng Road.
