Xiao Liuqiu (Liuqiu) lies off the southwestern coast of Taiwan and is the only one of Taiwan's 14 offshore islands or island groups that is composed of coral. It boasts three distinctions: the best place for viewing the sun, the most varieties of coral, and being composed completely of coral. There are strange and fantastic stone formations all over the island, and the ocean views are spectacular. Some of its best-known sights are Huaping Rock (Vase Rock), Meiren Cave (Beauty Cave), Wugui Cave (Black Dwarf Cave), and Houshiqun Reef (Houshi Fringing Reef), all of which are the results of coral sculpted by ocean waves.

You have a choice of how to tour Xiao Liuqiu (Liuqiu): walk, or ride a motor scooter. You can also bike it. If you want to see the whole island on a tight schedule, a motor scooter is your best choice; this way, you can visit all of the main cultural and scenic attractions in 30 or 40 minutes. If you want a look at the undersea world, you can do it on a semi-submersible or a glass-bottom boat.

Xiao Liuqiu (Liuqiu) has three lovely beaches. One is southeast of Baisha Bay, a white-sand beach with clear blue water where you can swim or engage in other water activities; another is Haizikou (HaiTzuKuo) beside the round-the-island road on the south shore, which is a good place for watching the sunset in addition to bathing; and the third is Haban Bay (Geban Bay), which lies to the north of Wugui Cave (Black Dwarf Cave), which has shallow water and is perfect for viewing intertidal life and fishing as well.

The seafood of Xiao Liuqiu (Liuqiu) is famous throughout Taiwan for being delicious and inexpensive too, and this is an attraction that seafood lovers must not miss. In addition to some general seafood, the island is also known for its grilled squid and its shellfish.
