The Mingxin Academy of Classical Learning is situated next to Yongchang Elementary School. Built in 1885, it was the first private school in the area. In 1985, it was designated as a municipal heritage site. During the late Qing period, education was largely based on Confucian doctrine. The academy is therefore dedicated to Wenchang Dijun (God of Literature) and Zhu Xi (the Song neo-confucianism philosopher). The library is arranged with old bookshelves, desks and chairs. Outside, various kinds of traditional handicrafts are on display, drawing one back to an earlier time.
