This two-story canopied structure was built at Kaohsiung Harbor's Wharf No. 3 in 1963. The open-air design, unique among storage facilities at the port, enabled the natural ventilation required for storage of bananas. Modernization and declining banana exports eventually consigned the Banana Warehouse to the annals of history. In 2010, the building was renamed as "Banana Pier." The building has a unique location opposite the first entrance of the harbor, with its back to the hills and its face to the sea. The ground floor of the building has been re-developed with souvenir shops, the Banana Story House, theme stores, and an international cruise ship terminal. On the second floor of the historic building is the unique sea view banquet hall.
