Caoling Historic Trail autumn silver grass sightseeing
The Caoling Historic Trail cuts across Sandiaojiao, starting at Yuanwangkeng, just inland from Fulung, and ending at Dali on the coast. It is the only remaining section (rebuilt by the Tourism Bureau) of the old Qing dynasty trail that was constructed 130 years ago to provide the only land link down the Northeast Coast from Tamsui to Yilan. The present trail is approximately 10 kilometers long and offers a pleasant hike of two to three hours.

Dali Tiangong Temple
The back of Dali Tiangong Temple is leaning to the Caoling Mountain. It faces toward the blue wide Pacific Ocean. The geographic environment of Dali Tiangong Temple is beautiful and shining. During the January 9th of the Chinese New Year's celebration, many believers came to worship the Sky God from everywhere. Dali used to be one of the eight sceneries of Lanzhou. After worship Sky God, you can overlook the whole Gui Mountain (Turtle Mountain) Island from the story of Dali Tiangong Temple. You can overlook the fine blue sea gather with the bright sky at sunny day, and when it rains, you can see how smoke and fog overflow among the story of the Temple. When the northeast monsoon comes to visit, the waves along the coast are very roughing, magnificent, and vigorous.
Zhuangwei Dune Visitor Center
Covering 4.8 hectares of land, Zhuangwei Dune Visitor Center brings together Yilan's natural sand-dune landscape and architectural space designed by renowned architect Huang Sheng-yuan. Inaugurated on April 28, 2018, the park includes a visitor center, and sand-dune exhibition center (curated by film director Tsai Ming-liang), and an "island of forests." In this area, there are many other beautiful places such as the coasts of Zhuangwei, bicycle trails, Houpi and Buhou communities, and Lanyang River Outlet Bird Conservation Area. It is simply wonderful to enjoy a walk, listen to the sounds of waves, or just stop to appreciate what's there, at any time of a day—Sunrise, Sunset, or Moon-rise. Let's take time to appreciate this sand-inspired park, which so serene and full of both natural and cultural charm.
Day2
Nanfan'ao Nantian Temple
Nanfang'ao is a natural fishing port and most of the locals here make a living on fishing. To thank goddess Mazu for saving their lives in 1946, the fishermen of Nanfang'ao started building Nantian Temple in 1950 for the goddess. By 1952, the main hall was complete. The temple was inaugurated on November 18, 1956. In 1990, more than 20 artisans were commissioned to make the world's largest Mazu statue made with pure gold. The statue weighs 200 kilograms and when it was officially installed on September 10, 1995, many believers came to worship it. The temple still enjoys much respect today.
National Center for Traditional Arts
This new 24-hectare facility is located beside beautiful Dongshan River in Yilan. In addition to organized displays and performances of culture and art, it also provides a stage where performing artists can show off their creative works. The emphasis here is on the continuous propagation, innovation, and renewal of traditional arts. You can stroll casually among artistic creations, listen to elegant music, and enjoy exciting opera performances—and you can even participate in the process of artistic creation yourself. From the Center, you can take a boat and visit the Dongshan River Water Park.
