Hongmaogang Cultural Park was inaugurated in July, 2012 alongside Kaohsiung Intercontinental Container Terminal. Looking at its foundation, for a long time, Kaohsiung as a major Asian port has focused on developing shipping trade. Thus, it was decided that the 400-year-old Hongmaogang Village must be relocated to leave space for the new terminal. The government thus established Hongmaogang Cultural Park to retain Gaozi Tower, the old village, and a few other historic sites.

Today, the 3.42-hectare park includes a tower restaurant, a museum, an outdoor display zone, a skywalk, a pier and waiting room, and viewing platforms. Through the following themes, the park demonstrates to visitors Hongmaogang's history: "legendary treasures," "the beautiful lagoon," "shrimp farming," "raft and trawl-net fishing," "traditional civil residences," and "religions and beliefs."

The revolving restaurant, tourist ferries, and scenes of gigantic ships entering the port, plus arts and cultural spots along the bay, make Hongmaogang Cultural Park a major destination in any of the city's cultural tours. In fact, it not only preserves history, but also serves as an educational and leisure site for the city's dwellers. Visitors from all parts of the world love this place, too.
