The Mingxin Academy of Classical Learning is situated next to Yongchang Elementary School. Built in 1885, it was the first private school in the area. In 1985, it was designated as a grade three historic site. During the late Qing period, education was largely based on Confucian doctrine. The academy is therefore dedicated to Wenchangdi (God of Literature) and Chu Hsi, the Song neo-confucianism philosopher Chu Hsi). The library is arranged with old bookshelves, desks and chairs. Outside, various kinds of traditional handicrafts are on display, drawing one back to an earlier time.
