We invite travelers from abroad to take the High-Speed Rail and enjoy Taiwan’s arts and culture as well as scenic beauty at a buy one, get one free price!

The Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications welcomes international tourists to Taiwan for sightseeing. It also encourages the tourists to visit the new tourism highlights of Taiwan's central and southern areas and enjoy the charm of performing arts and cultural performances. It is continuing to cooperate with Taiwan's High-Speed Rail Company to launch the "Two people travel together, one person travels for free" preferential program. From September 16, 2019, to January 20, 2020, all foreign travelers visiting Taiwan on short-term tourist visas or visa-exemption privileges can participate in the program as long as the destination is Taichung or south of the central Taiwan city. The high-speed rail stations included in the special promotional program are: Taichung, Changhua, Yunlin, Chiayi, Tainan, and Zuoying Stations. As long as both travelers are foreign visitors and they travel on the same section of the High-Speed Rail to the same destination, they can enjoy a free second-person ticket.

Since 2018 when the Bureau first launched the "Take the High-Speed Rail to Tour Taiwan – Two people travel together, one person travels for free discount program," it has successfully attracted international visitors to visit the Taichung World Flora Exposition, the National Taichung Theater and the Weiwuying National Kaohsiung Center for The Arts, as well as the 30th Taiwan Lantern Festival in Pingtung County and other central and southern Taiwan sightseeing highlights and activities. In order to continue attracting more tourists to central and southern Taiwan, the Tourism Bureau is continuing its cooperation with the Taiwan High Speed Rail Company to launch the special offer again this year, and each of the designated participating dealer (KKday, KLOOK and Lion Travel) will provide corresponding discount packages, including tour offers, to attract international tourists to Taiwan for sightseeing.

In addition, the Tourism Bureau has implemented a new concept of "Promoting Tourism through the Theme of Culture" by encouraging international visitors to come to Taiwan to get close to the arts, and to get to know Taiwan's local life. In particular, the National Performing Arts Center (Weiwuying) in Kaohsiung recently launched a promotional program for international tourists. Foreigners who are on short-term visits to Taiwan can participate in the tour of the three major venues free of charge, including the Taipei “Two Halls” (National Theater and National Concert Hall), the Taichung National Theater, the Kaohsiung Weiwuying National Center for the Arts, and the “Enjoying Arts and Culture Programs – Two People Go Together, One Person Gets In For Free” incentive offer. All of these programs are aimed at encouraging travelers to take the High-Speed Rail to experience the diverse attractions of Taiwan's tourism.

In the year of 2020, the Taiwan Lantern Festival will be held in Taichung from February 8th to 23rd with the theme of forests. It will bring visitors different visual, auditory, tactile and olfactory senses compared to festivals in the past. The Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications welcomes people from around the world to encourage their family and friends to visit Taiwan with them, take the High-Speed Rail together to Central Taiwan to enjoy the Lantern Festival, eat great food, see the scenic beauty, and continue southward to explore southern Taiwan for an in-depth journey.

This project will provide the most affordable Taiwanese High-Speed Rail experience for international travelers and allow them to enjoy the comfort and convenience of high-speed rail travel. The event will be launched globally starting at noon on Monday, September 16 Taiwan time, and is limited to those coming to Taiwan for a short-term visit. People who stay in Taiwan for a long time due to factors such as work or schooling are not eligible to enjoy this special deal, and the number of offers is limited.
