The “Beep Beep Taiwan” painted sightseeing train was launched in Japan to promote Taiwan's tourism profile. It is a cooperative effort by Taiwan's Tourism Administration of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) and Japan's Keihan Electric Railway Company. Now, in celebration of the 10th anniversary of a friendship agreement between state-owned Taiwan Railways (TRA) and Keihan, an electric EMU700 train was painted in the red livery of Keihan trains that will provide a replica in Taiwan of the “Beep Beep Taiwan” train. This will allow people in Taiwan to enjoy this special train! Tourism Administration Director-General Chen Yu-Hsiu and TRA Chairman James Jeng jointly announced the launch of the train on July 4th. It will run on the TRA's Yilan Line section as it welcomes the public to visit communities in northeast Taiwan, such as Ruifang, Gongliao Fulong, Waiao, Yilan City and Suao!

In mid-March, the train's unique "Taiwan" visual design, bright colors and creative promotional methods won the President's Award from the Tokyo Outdoor Advertising Association in its 14th Tokyo Outdoor Advertising Competition in the Vehicle Body Advertising Group. In mid-May, the train's design was also recognized in the prestigious Type Director's Club (TDC) competition in the font design area, providing further international recognition.

Director-General Chen said that rail is an important mode of travel in Taiwan. The "Beep Beep Taiwan" painted train was launched in cooperation with Japan's Keihan to deepen the international promotion of Taiwan tourism in Japan. The TRA assisted in promoting this two-way exchange of tourism between Taiwan and Japan. The new train in Taiwan allows tourists to experience this sight in person. Operations began on July 4th, and the original three-month timeframe has been increased to six months. The train will pass through areas of the Northeast Corner, such as Ruifang, Fulong, and Yilan City. It will also make short trips to Jiufen in cooperation with the Greater Northeast Corner Tourism Alliance. Everyone is welcome to ride the train and explore the natural beauty and culture of Taiwan's Northeast Corner.

Chairman Jeng of the TRA said that the Beep Beep Taiwan train combines images of Taiwan's orchids, tea, pineapples and other unique items. Everyone is invited to enjoy the beautiful life in Taiwan!

To promote Taiwan tourism, the Tourism Administration cooperated with Japan's Keihan from June 7 to September 28, 2024 to launch the "Beep Beep Taiwan" painted train in Japan. It runs in Tokyo and Kanagawa Prefectures, among the busiest areas in Japan. Taiwan is known as the "Orchid Kingdom" and the "Fruit Kingdom." The train's unique design features Taiwanese items such as orchids, tea, and pineapples. The pronunciation of the character "beep” on the Japan trains is “bi," meaning “beauty.” It calls to mind the beautiful scenery, delicious food, and interesting culture enjoyed while traveling in Taiwan. The Taiwan version of the train celebrates the 10th anniversary of the friendship agreement between the TRA and Keihan. Its design promotes tourist attractions in Yilan and other parts of northeast Taiwan. In addition to riding the train, the public can visit train stations and take photos with the train. Those who take photos of this themed train and upload the photos to the designated post of “Friends of Northeast Taiwan” have the opportunity to receive limited edition souvenirs!

In conjunction with the launch of "Beep Beep Taiwan," the Greater Northeast Corner Tourism Alliance is organizing many exciting activities. These include a tour of Jiufen led by the Bafankeng Teahouse. Tours through the beautiful area may include panning for gold, dining on miner-style lunch boxes, making taro balls by hand, brewing a cup of tea, listening to tales of the golden years of Jiufen, and enjoying the Jiufen Red Lantern Festival. Northeast Corner attractions also include the Fulong Sand Sculpture Festival and bicycle tours on the Old Caoling Loop Bicycle Trail. Everyone is welcomed to take the train to northeast Taiwan and experience the charms of the Greater Northeast Corner Tourism Alliance!
