Hebao Mountain

Taiwan's cultivation of coffee began in the 10th year of Emperor Guangxu, Ching Dynasty (1884). During the Japanese Occupation, the Japanese planted approximately 75 hectares of coffee trees in the realm of the Hebao Mountain Commercial Farm of Gukeng Township, Yunlin. Therefore, Hebao Mountain earned the name Kafei Mountain (or Coffee Mountain) and is still so called by some today.

With an altitude of 300 meters, Hebao Mountain, a place located in the subtropical zone and composed of sandy soil that drains water well, is ideal for growing coffee trees. And most of the coffee trees cultivated here are coffee Arabic Linn.

Hebao Mountain Trail
Hebao Mountain has a trail with a section of stone stairs where the air is fresh and the environment is secluded. The scenery along the cool wooden path of these stairs is emerald green, and it becomes even more poetic with small white flowers accentuating the picturesque view during April and May when the Tung flowers blossom.

The total length of the Hebao Mountain trail is approximately two kilometers long. At the end of the stone stairs and to the side is the Hebao Mountain triangle point. Here you can enter a flat area following a footpath of stone plates and enjoy the enchanting scenery.

Shitou Park
Located in the Zhaoyang Village of Gukeng Township, Shitou Park is the only park on the island that is made by piled-up rocks. In the upper area of the park sits a Shitou Temple, where Maitreya (Laughing Buddha) is worshipped. In addition to the statues of gods and goddesses that are made of natural stone, the incense burner is also made of a piece of real rock.

Shitou Park is surrounded by mountains on four sides and features a large green Lotus Pond and lovely wooden cottages to provide lodging for worshipers. The arrangement and decoration in the park is so refreshing and relaxing that spending time here is something cool and pleasant. New areas for accommodation, barbecues, and recreation have been created, too, all to make the park an ideal destiny for a family outing.
