Tourism Administration Joins Forces with 7-ELEVEN to Co-build "Traveler Convenience Stores," Creating Taiwan's Densest Tourist Service Network

To deepen tourism services, the Tourism Administration of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) held a signing ceremony for a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on tourism cooperation with 7-ELEVEN on January 6 at the Tourism Administration Visitor Center. Both parties reached a consensus on mutual benefit through expanding channels, joint marketing, and data sharing. The first wave focuses on the concept of promoting "Traveler Convenience Stores," collaborating to promote the Taiwan E-Tour Guide and expanding redemption channels for international tourists’ "Taiwan Pass" (Golden Luck) incentives. In the future, the two parties will continue to combine cross-domain advantages and innovative marketing strategies to jointly create a more comprehensive, convenient, and traveler-centric all-around tourism service experience.
Chen Yu-hsiu, Director-General of the Tourism Administration, stated that the demand for real-time travel information continues to rise. Therefore, the Tourism Administration will promote the "Taiwan E-Tour Guide" in stages. The first wave integrates three tourism regions—Northern Taiwan, Eastern Taiwan, and Kinmen—and is expected to expand to the entire island by the end of July 2026. Simultaneously, the "OhBear AI Assistant" has been launched, which currently integrates official open data from the Tourism Administration, the National Park Service of the Ministry of the Interior, the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency and the Agency of Rural Development and Soil and Water Conservation of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Industrial Development Administration of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, and local governments. For example, it includes themed tours and event information from the Tourism Administration; ecological guided trails and recreational information from the National Park Service; forest recreation areas and nature trail information from the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency; agricultural tourism information such as leisure farms from the Agency of Rural Development and Soil and Water Conservation; and tourism factories and industrial experience sites from the Industrial Development Administration, as well as local attractions, festivals, and real-time travel information provided by local governments. The Tourism Administration has also posted entry links next to the ibon machines at over 7,200 7-ELEVEN stores across Taiwan. Travelers can simply scan the QR Code to obtain precise and real-time official travel intelligence.
Director-General Chen Yu-hsiu pointed out that the Tourism Administration plans to continue promoting the "Taiwan Lucky Land 2.0" campaign this year. To further enhance the convenience and travel experience for international tourists, both parties will work together to study expanding redemption channels, allowing international travelers to easily receive these travel gifts during their journey and enjoy Taiwan. In the next stage, the Tourism Administration plans to invite more channel operators to participate, continuing to provide convenient services for international tourists.
7-ELEVEN stated that when tourism services enter the space of daily life, every step a traveler takes becomes easier and more convenient. There are 7-ELEVEN stores in all 368 townships, towns, cities, and districts across Taiwan, possessing the advantage of a highly dense channel that reaches deep into communities. With over 7,200 stores, each can become a convenient digital entry point for travel services, serving as an important partner and platform for the government to bring tourism services into local areas and closer to the daily lives of travelers. The results of this cooperation will also serve as an important reference for the Tourism Administration's future tourism policies and service expansion.
Representatives from relevant ministries and partner units also attended the scene, including Wang Cheng-chi, Director-General of the National Park Service; Chang Dai, Deputy Director-General of the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency; Wu Ching-ching, Division Chief of the Agency of Rural Development and Soil and Water Conservation; Chang Wei-sheng, Specialist of the Industrial Development Administration; Chen Chia-hsiang, Deputy Secretary-General of the Taiwan Visitors Association; Guo Wen-kai, Director of the Taiwan Tourism Research and Training Institute (Preparatory Office), and representatives from the three major electronic ticket companies, expressing support for subsequent tourism cooperation.
The Tourism Administration further pointed out that "Traveler Convenience Store" is not only an innovative cooperation project but also an important demonstration of public-private partnership promoting tourism service upgrades. In the future, the Tourism Administration will continue to use cross-domain cooperation and innovative marketing strategies to make the "Taiwan E-Tour Guide" closer to traveler needs. The Tourism Administration added that the "OhBear AI Assistant" is not a general open AI but a smart tourism service tool centered on official databases and cross-ministerial tourism open data, ensuring that travelers are provided with the latest and most accurate travel information, creating a friendly, smart, and warm tourism environment to comprehensively enhance Taiwan tourism's international appeal and competitiveness.

Actively Promoting Low-Carbon Tourism: The Tourism Administration Completes Carbon Footprint Assessment for 10 "Phoenix Golden Journeys"

The global tourism industry continues its efforts to reduce carbon emissions, and tourists continue to look for sustainable options. These are ongoing processes. However, calculating carbon footprints remains a major challenge for travel agencies amidst the ever-changing tour landscape. To address pain points of sustainable tourism development, assist industry upgrades, and capitalize on future green business opportunities, the Tourism Administration in 2025 convened a “Conference on Guidelines for Calculating the Carbon Footprint of Tour Itineraries in the Travel Industry.” Representatives from the Ministry of Environment’s Climate Change Administration were joined by industry representatives, such as those from My Taitung Trip, Ecotour Taiwan Travel Service, and Phoenix Golden Tours, as well as representatives from academia. Using the latest ISO 14067 standard, the meeting clarified the lifecycle of tour carbon footprints and discussed issues such as data acquisition responsibilities, a simplified assessment logic, and industry feasibility. The meeting resulted in a set of " Guidelines for Calculating the Carbon Footprint of Tour Itineraries in the Travel Industry."
The Tourism Administration noted that setting these guidelines is a first step in helping travel agencies manage their operations in a sustainable manner. The guidelines cover topics such as 1) how to determine calculation scope (system boundaries); 2) how to identify tourism service elements that generate carbon emissions, such as transportation, accommodations, and tour activities; 3) how to identify what data needs to be collected, such as vehicle fuel consumption and accommodation water consumption; 4) how to collect data that meets quality requirements, and 5) how to calculate a carbon footprint inventory and compile a formal report. These guidelines are available on the Tourism Administration's website. Going forward, tour operators can use these guidelines to better understand the basic concepts of “carbon footprints,” and also to assist them in seeking professional consultants to help them complete the calculation of their tours' carbon footprint emissions.
To provide examples to the industry, the Tourism Administration recently conducted carbon footprint assessments based on these guidelines for 10 "Phoenix Golden Journeys" promoted by the Administration for senior citizens. The assessments were conducted by Chase Sustainability Technology, a professional carbon footprint calculation firm in Taiwan. After four months of route investigation, data collection, and carbon emission calculations, an inventory/results report was completed. Building on this self-assessment, the Administration encourages tour operators to employ third-party verification by impartial entities and apply for Ministry of Environment "carbon labels" based on the results. Completing third-party verification not only grants companies positive recognition for their self-disclosure, but also allows them to identify carbon emission hotspots throughout the tour lifecycle, pinpointing high-energy-consuming processes or operational policies. This serves as a crucial basis for optimizing sustainable tour design. The project’s carbon footprint assessment reports have been completed, and operators are encouraged to leverage these existing results as they conduct their own verification procedures and apply for carbon labels. Upon approval, carbon emission labels can be applied to tour products and information.
Taiwan’s carbon labeling system is still in its early stages, and the ability to compare carbon-labeled products remains rather limited. The Tourism Administration hopes that these assessments will help operators in the following areas: 1) understanding the carbon footprint concept and its practical application to tours; 2) evaluating the emission structure of different tour elements, including transportation options and catering arrangements; and 3) gradually expanding the use of this process to promote better carbon management, green procurement, and the provision of sustainable services. Facing a new era of net-zero-carbon emissions, carbon footprint assessments are a key part of the low-carbon transformation of the travel industry. This is not the end of the journey, but a new starting point for the tourism industry as it creates low-carbon and sustainable tourism.

Taiwan's bike-friendly accommodations weave together a round-island network A new global landmark for cycling adventures!

Taiwan boasts an extensive island-circling cycling route network and a diverse landscape spanning cities, mountains, and coastlines, offering riders a wide range of cycling environments. Visitors can travel at a relaxed pace between urban areas and the mountains and sea, while also enjoying local culture, cuisine, and natural scenery. This makes Taiwan an ideal destination for cycling enthusiasts around the world who want a deeper travel experience. The Taiwan Tourism Administration (TTA) has long been committed to improving the cycling tourism environment. In addition to continually enhancing cycling routes, the TTA also promotes its “Bike-Friendly Accommodation” certification to upgrade lodging services, so cyclists can store and clean their bikes with peace of mind, get proper rest, and more easily take on the next leg of their journey.
When traveling by bicycle, riders often find that some accommodations do not have suitable space to store their bikes. As a result, bicycles may be left outdoors, which increases the risk of theft. But the good news is that Taiwan is a highly safe and welcoming destination, and Taiwan Tourism Administration-certified “Bike-Friendly Accommodations” provide secure spaces for bike parking. Some properties even allow guests to bring their bicycles into their rooms, giving cyclists greater peace of mind as they rest.
In addition to basic bike parking and cleaning services, some Bike-Friendly Accommodations offer even more cyclist-friendly support. Based on guests’ riding plans, they may serve breakfast early or provide breakfast boxes, allowing riders to enjoy meals that are carefully prepared and satisfying. Some properties also offer late check-out for guests who have taken part in intense races or morning training. This lets them keep their luggage in the room, freshen up with a shower, and then head to their next destination. Of course, some accommodations also provide bicycle rentals or direct visitors to nearby rental shops or bike-sharing stations. This makes it easy for travelers without their own bikes to enjoy leisurely rides without the hassle of transporting a bicycle. These are some of the ways Bike-Friendly Accommodations make cycling travel in Taiwan stand out.
For international travelers who often plan overseas cycling trips and are looking for a wide range of route experiences, Taiwan is a top choice. The island offers diverse natural scenery, a welcoming travel environment, and a rich variety of local cuisine. It also features a well-developed cycling route network and bike-friendly accommodations located throughout Taiwan. Whether you prefer urban rides, coastal routes, or challenging mountain terrain, you can enjoy a rich and comfortable cycling experience in Taiwan.
The Taiwan Tourism Administration (TTA) sincerely invites cycling enthusiasts from around the world to pack the essentials and explore Taiwan’s spectacular mountain and coastal landscapes in person. Come experience the unique charm of this “cycling paradise,” and set off to create and capture your own pedal-powered journey through Taiwan.

Taiwan Tourism Administration launches the “Enter Taiwan, Enjoy a Gift!” campaign to encourage international transit passengers to enter Taiwan and experience its charm

To promote the experience of Taiwan’s beauty among transit travelers at Taoyuan International Airport, the Taiwan Tourism Administration (TTA), Ministry of Transportation and Communications, will launch the “Enter Taiwan, Enjoy a Gift!” campaign starting on November 1, 2025. Travelers holding a non–Republic of China (Taiwan) passport who transit through Taoyuan International Airport and enter Taiwan for a stay of up to 24 hours during their layover will receive a gift voucher worth NT$600. This initiative allows transit passengers to experience Taiwan’s warmth and convenience during their short stopover.
The campaign will open for online registration at 12:00 PM on November 1, 2025, and will run until October 31, 2026. Specifically designed for transit travelers, the campaign offers tangible incentives that encourage international visitors to explore the airport's unique shops and enjoy Taiwanese delicacies during their layovers. Through this effort, the Tourism Administration aims to enhance Taiwan's international visibility and attract return visits from transit passengers.
Participation is simple. Travelers can register their basic information on the campaign website. Upon arrival at Taoyuan International Airport, they can present their passport and onward international boarding pass at the Taiwan Tourism Administration's Visitor Service Centers (located in Terminal 1 or Terminal 2) to receive an NT$600 shopping voucher. The voucher is valid at participating merchants within the airport, including restaurants, duty-free stores, souvenir shops, and other retail services. A list of participating merchants is available on the campaign website for easy reference.
Taiwan's geographical location makes it a key transit hub in Asia, and many airlines are increasing their Taiwan-bound routes and frequencies. Notably, Emirates will operate two daily flights on the Dubai–Taipei route starting August 2025, and Etihad Airways will launch its new Abu Dhabi–Taipei direct route on September 8, 2025. These routes will attract travelers from the Middle East, Europe, and other regions, enhancing Taiwan’s role as a transit hub.
As Taiwan’s major international gateway, Taoyuan International Airport sees a large number of transit passengers. Through this voucher campaign, the Tourism Administration hopes to encourage more international travelers to use their layover time to experience Taiwan’s food, culture, and airport amenities. The campaign also aims to stimulate business growth among airport merchants and foster the diversified development of Taiwan’s tourism economy.
Looking ahead, the Taiwan Tourism Administration will continue working with Taoyuan International Airport Corporation, airlines, and other partners to introduce more incentives and promotional efforts for transit passengers. These initiatives will encourage visitors to stay longer and explore Taiwan, boosting tourist arrivals and spending, enhancing Taiwan’s image as a warm, convenient, and enjoyable international transit hub, and ultimately transforming Taiwan from a “transit point” into a “travel destination.”

Bringing together government agencies and key Taiwan–U.S. supply chain industries, the event showcases Taiwan’s advanced technology sector alongside its cultural and tourism strengths. This year, the Taiwan Tourism Administration is represented by its Los Angeles office, presenting the Taiwan Pavilion, where guests are welcomed with tea and invited to enjoy interactive experiences and immerse themselves in Taiwan’s signature hospitality.
At the Pavilion, Taiwan Tea Ambassador Thomas Shu offers visitors a hands-on tea ceremony experience, serving authentic Taiwanese oolong tea while sharing the island’s rich cultural heritage and terroir. To align with the Expo’s high-tech theme, the Taiwan Pavilion also features a Travel Taiwan AI Photo Booth, where visitors can instantly receive personalized Taiwan-themed scenic photos enhanced with AI effects—encouraging them to experience the real sights in person. Additionally, an interactive touchscreen guide allows self-paced exploration of Taiwan’s diverse travel resources, cultural festivals, cuisine, natural landscapes, and the latest travel promotions. Guests participating in Pavilion activities will have a chance to receive limited-edition gifts, bringing a piece of Taiwan’s warmth and goodwill home with them.
Vivian Lin, Director of the Taiwan Tourism Administration, Los Angeles Office, noted that Taiwan warmly welcomes local residents to visit. With air travel between Taiwan and the U.S. becoming increasingly convenient, North America now offers over 170 nonstop flights per week to Taiwan. EVA Air will launch its first-ever Dallas–Taipei direct service in October 2025, while China Airlines and STARLUX Airlines will open Phoenix–Taipei routes between late 2025 and early 2026.
Delegation of Taiwan Expands Europe’s MICE Market at IMEX Exhibition in Germany

The Tourism Administration of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC), in partnership with the International Trade Administration, Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), led a delegation to participate in the IMEX Frankfurt Exhibition from May 20 to 22, 2025. Taiwan’s MICE (Meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) Pavilion showcased nearly 15 institutions and businesses from Taiwan’s MICE industry. Over the three-day exhibition, lively business discussions successfully attracted many European and international buyers, demonstrating Taiwan’s diverse strengths and collaborative potential in the MICE industry.
Last year, the exhibition drew buyers and exhibitors from over 150 countries, attracting approximately 13,264 visitors over its three-day run. A total of 64,993 business appointments were arranged. The Taiwan Pavilion hosted regular group presentations throughout the exhibition, showcasing Taiwan's unique MICE resources, excellent transportation accessibility, world-class venues, and tourism experiences blending personal warmth with innovative services. Each presentation had over 15 professional buyers. Through focused one-on-one discussions with key buyers from Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, and other regions, the Taiwan delegation successfully held over 100 business meetings, resulting in fruitful matchmaking outcomes.
Another highlight of the exhibition was the live baking of Taiwanese egg cakes by Taiwan-based vendors in Germany, bringing Taiwan's street food culture to the international stage. Customers praised the excellent taste of the egg cakes and were deeply impressed by Taiwan's creative marketing approach. Tea and other small snacks were also available. This multi-sensory marketing and cultural experience significantly boosted the appeal of the Taiwan booth, making it one of the most talked-about features of the exhibition.
The delegation at IMEX actively participated in international forums and seminars, gaining valuable insights into industry dynamics and European market demand. These sessions covered key topics such as sustainable MICE practices, event technology, and global trends in incentive travel. Looking ahead, the Tourism Administration announced plans to enhance Taiwan's MICE professionals' international client attraction capabilities and boost the island's participation in the global MICE network.
The exhibition successfully expanded connections with buyers from German-speaking markets. It also attracted interest from organizers in several countries for planning future international conferences or incentive travel groups in Taiwan before 2027. Follow-up efforts are underway to build on these connections and cooperation. The Tourism Administration will continue to support Taiwanese businesses by providing business matchmaking opportunities and marketing assistance, aiming to strengthen public-private collaboration and promote the internationalization of Taiwan’s MICE industry.
Taiwan boasts a robust MICE infrastructure, diverse tourism resources, professional event teams, and a friendly social environment, positioning it as a rising star in the Asia-Pacific MICE sector. To further enhance this status, Taiwan plans to continue participating in major international MICE platforms to enhance brand visibility and international connectivity, thereby creating more opportunities for international cooperation and tourism development.

Supplementary Information:
IMEX Frankfurt 2025 is centered on the theme of "Impact," highlighting the events industry's responsibility to contribute positively to global challenges. The exhibition encouraged MICE professionals worldwide to discuss events' environmental, social, and economic effects. A series of events and seminars explored relevant topics, including reducing carbon footprints created through events and promoting diversity, inclusivity, and social welfare through events. Through the exchange of ideas among MICE professionals from different perspectives, IMEX Frankfurt 2025 aimed to drive industry development and sustainability.

Official opening of the Taiwan Tourism Information Centre in the heart of Amsterdam New step to promote Taiwan as a travel destination in the Netherlands

Amsterdam, 16 May 2025 – With the official opening of the Taiwan Tourism Information Centre (TTIC) in Amsterdam on 15 May 2025, the Taiwan Tourism Administration (TTA) is taking an important step towards strengthening its position in the Dutch market. From the new information centre, located on Brouwersgracht, Taiwan aims to work more closely with the Dutch travel sector and inspire travellers to discover the island as a diverse and surprising destination.
Festive opening with Taiwanese flair
The festive opening ceremony of the Taiwan Tourism Information Centre in Amsterdam was attended by more than 40 professionals from the travel industry, including representatives from airlines such as China Airlines, EVA Air and KLM, as well as various local media outlets. The official opening ceremony was inaugurated by General Director Yung-Hui Chou together with Ambassador Chung Kwang Tien of the Taipei Representative Office in the Netherlands.
General-Director Yung-Hui stated that Taiwan and the Netherlands have shared many similarities in recent years and highlighted three unique ways for Dutch visitors to explore Taiwan: by bike, by train, and through taste. He warmly invited everyone to experience Taiwan for themselves.
Local traditions and culinary surprises during an inspiring afternoon
Visitors were treated to a colourful lion dance, a traditional Taiwanese diabolo performance and a lunch in which Taiwanese specialities were combined with traditional Dutch bitterballen. Afterwards, there was an opportunity to network with five Taiwanese tourism partners, and the event concluded with a festive lucky draw, in which two lucky attendees each received a return ticket from Amsterdam to Taipei, offered by China Airlines and EVA Air. Currently, travelers to Taiwan can fly with EVA Air, which offers three weekly nonstop connections from Amsterdam via Bangkok to Taipei. In addition, China Airlines provides four weekly direct flights between Amsterdam and Taipei, operating on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday.
Dutch market increasingly important for Taiwan
The number of Dutch visitors to Taiwan is growing steadily, thanks in part to the country's easy accessibility and increasing range of cultural, culinary and nature-based experiences. In 2024, 24,602 Dutch travellers visited Taiwan. As the fourth resource market in Europe, Taiwan sees the Dutch market as promising and is therefore committed to strengthening collaboration with Dutch travel professionals and media.

The TTIC in Amsterdam was set up to increase Taiwan's visibility as a travel destination, answer questions from travellers and travel professionals, and build closer ties with the Dutch market.

MICHELIN Taiwan Guide: Three new locations have been added to the MICHELIN Taiwan Guide with support from the Tourism Administration: New Taipei City, Hsinchu City and Hsinchu County

On May 7, 2025, MICHELIN Guide Taiwan 2025 announced that three new locations, New Taipei City, Hsinchu City, and Hsinchu City, have been included in the guide for the first time. Each location offers unique food cultures, from temple snacks to innovative cuisines, fishing village flavors to mountain specialties, and classic home cooking to high-end business fare. Whether common delicacies or exquisite feasts, they all highlight the rich diversity of Taiwan's seasonal ingredients. The cuisines of these three places not only blend the essence of different cultures, but also preserve food traditions passed down from generation to generation, showing the unique culinary charm of Taiwan to the world.
The Tourism Administration has a 10-year plan to brand Taiwanese cuisine globally. When the first MICHELIN Guide Taiwan was released in March 2018, Taipei City was the only city in Taiwan to be included. Three other cities were subsequently added: Taichung City, Tainan City, and Kaohsiung City. The new locations in the latest edition add more highlights to Taiwan's food landscape. This is not only a positive recognition of the food culture and its development in various parts of Taiwan, but also highlights the positive effect of the phased government programs. These are all part of the new guide produced by MICHELIN’s professional evaluators.
Chou Yong-Hui, Director-General of the Tourism Administration, Ministry of Transportation and Communications, noted that Taiwan has accelerated the branding of cuisines at new locations after the pandemic. Today’s announcement of three new locations has again expanded the food map of the MICHELIN Guide Taiwan. This not only showcases the vitality of different cities, their local food cultures and unique charms, but also highlights the diverse flavors and characteristics of food from all over Taiwan. This brings new opportunities to Taiwan's catering and tourism industries. Chou believes that the seven locations of Taipei City, New Taipei City, Hsinchu County, Hsinchu City, Taichung City, Tainan City, and Kaohsiung City will bring new energy to Taiwan's food culture and tourism industry and be a "Lucky 7." This will help further build Taiwan’s position in the global food industry, and make it an even more attractive tourist destination.

Taiwan Tourism Administration Deepens Connections in Rome and Milan Attracting Nearly 100 Industry Professionals from Italy

The Taiwan Tourism Administration of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications completed a series of significant tourism promotion events in Rome and Milan earlier this week, on May 13 and 14, respectively. The initiative aimed to bolster Taiwan's presence in the European inbound tourism market, with a specific focus on attracting Italian visitors.
The two events successfully drew nearly 100 Italian travel trade professionals and media representatives. Attendees experienced facets of Taiwanese culture, including tea ceremonies and a creative diabolo (Chinese yo-yo) performance, alongside B2B networking sessions designed to foster direct industry connections. These showcases highlighted Taiwan's rich cultural heritage and diverse tourism appeal.
Director-General Chou Yung-Hui, who led the Taiwanese delegation, addressed attendees at both events. He emphasized Taiwan’s high regard for the Italian market and extended a sincere invitation for Italians to visit. Chou noted Italy's renowned seafood cuisine, drawing parallels with Taiwan's own diverse and affordable seafood offerings. He described Taiwan as a land of hospitality, where bubble tea is a common gesture of welcoming guests to Taiwan. Further, Director-General Chou outlined Taiwan's year-round travel attractions, such as spring lantern festivals incorporating AI and art, summer coastal railway journeys, autumn cycling routes, and winter hot springs, alongside signature events like the Taiwan Lantern Festival.
Taiwan’s Representative to Italy, Ambassador Tsai Yun-Chung, attended the event in Rome. In his address, Ambassador Tsai characterized Taiwan as a modern island that combines high-tech development with its rich multicultural background, positioning it as a promising partner for economic and trade cooperation. He suggested the promotional events signified a deepening of Taiwan-Italy bilateral relations, potentially paving the way for future collaborations in tourism, culture, and commerce.
A key component of the events involved one-on-one business matchmaking sessions, which facilitated discussions for potential cooperation between Taiwanese and Italian travel operators. Italian industry representatives reportedly expressed keen interest in Taiwan’s tourism products, with some indicating an intent to include Taiwan in future travel packages. They also voiced a need for more timely and practical travel information to support their promotional activities.
The promotional efforts were further enhanced by authentic cultural experiences. A tea tasting area was featured at both locations, and in Milan, attendees also sampled Taiwanese bubble tea and wheel cakes. The diabolo performance, an innovative take on tradition, received strong positive feedback. The events culminated in a lucky draw for round-trip air tickets to Taiwan, sponsored by airlines. An additional incentive offers a chance to win a cash prize for guests participating in related activities before September 30, 2025.
These promotional activities are timely, as the Taiwan Tourism Administration noted that Italy became the fifth largest source of European travelers to Taiwan in 2024. The events also build on the revised Air Services Agreement signed between Taiwan and Italy on March 5, 2025. This agreement significantly increases the potential for total weekly passenger flights from 7 to 19, adds Venice as a new direct destination, and grants fifth freedom rights for cargo services, which allow an airline to carry passengers or cargo between two foreign countries as part of a service connecting the airline's own country. Currently, EVA Air operates four weekly direct flights to Milan, while China Airlines offers three weekly flights to Rome.
Looking forward, the Taiwan Tourism Administration plans to continue integrating public and private sector resources, adopt diversified marketing strategies, expand air route networks, and enhance industry cooperation to strengthen Taiwan’s competitiveness in the European tourism market.
