Introduction
Nanzhuang Dongcun Dormitory” was built in the 10th year of Showa era (1935). Originally it was set up as “Nanzhang Camphor Production Storage Office”, which means the office for distribution of camphor in Japanese, and is the dormitory of Japanese workers, which witness the rise and fall of camphor and forestry industry. In 2007, county government registered as historical building, and 2021, Tri-mountain National Scenic Area followed the original building method complete the restoration.
The historical building currently only has the chief’s dormitory, inspector’s dormitory, bathroom and toilet remained. It only has one story with three buildings attached to each other. The feature of the building is a complex with both for office and home, and it’s one of the rare buildings in Taiwan that contains the small residential public bath. Surroundings of the building also specially made lanterns with bamboo weaving and firefly ecology combined Ema that symbolize praying and blessing to create atmosphere.
Currently it’s operated by local team that provide the travel service of Japanese style desserts, accommodation, Japanese kimono experience, creative products and tourism.
