Built in 1967 near the Gaomei Wetlands, Gaomei Lighthouse has an octagonal reinforced concrete tower that rises 34.4 meters high and is topped with a light reaching 38.7 meters high. It is the only lighthouse in Taiwan with red and white horizontal bands. To accommodate the construction of Taichung Harbor, the lighthouse lamps were moved in 1982 to the top of Far East Silo granary at a higher elevation, now known as the Taichung Port Lighthouse. Gaomei Lighthouse was retired at that time.
