Southern Taiwan

The "Southern Region" comprises Chiayi County, Chiayi City, Tainan City, Kaohsiung City, and Pingtung County. This area enjoys a warm climate year-round, and brims with warmth and a rich cultural atmosphere. Tainan, one of Taiwan's oldest cities, boasts historical sites such as Anping Fort and Chihkan Tower, as well as local delicacies. Chiayi City and County are renowned for the Alishan Forest Recreation Area, a mountain-climbing railway, and cultural arts. The railway and views of the mountain sunrise and “sea of clouds” attract many visitors. The Tropic of Cancer crosses through Chiayi, and a monument and plaza highlight this feature. The international port city of Kaohsiung has many attractions, including Shoushan, Sizihwan, and the Pier-2 Art Center. Further south, Pingtung's Kenting National Park, Eluanbi Lighthouse, and Hengchun Old Town showcase ocean scenery and a relaxed atmosphere. These offer good ways to experience Taiwan's tropical charms.
