Built in 1911, Dongjiyu Lighthouse perches on the highest cliff in north part of the Penghu County islet of Dongjiyu, serving as an important beacon for ships crossing the Taiwan Strait. In 1938, the lighthouse was rebuilt with a 24.4-meter-high cylindrical tower made of reinforced concrete and painted with black and white horizontal stripes. This is the second lighthouse built by the Japanese in the Penghu Islands.
