The National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (NTMFA) opened in 1988. It is affiliated with the Ministry of Culture. The museum is active in art collection, research, exhibition and education, particularly with regard to contemporary Taiwan art. It highlights the development of art in Taiwan, and features the styles of specific artists. The museum’s interior is open and modern, with a simple square structure. A large glass curtain lets in natural light on the south side. Changes in time and weather introduce new patterns of light and shadow. An outdoor sculpture area displays works by many Taiwanese artists.
