Kaohsiung Metropolitan Park is located at the boundary of Nanzi District of Kaohsiung City and the Qiaotou area of Kaohsiung City. It measures an area of approximately 35 hectors, including vast and flat grassland, and forest greens. Park facilities include a decorated swimming pool, an ecological exhibition room, parent-child playrooms, and a library.
The well-designed sculpture of "Golden Rooster Sundial," one of the twelve animals symbolizing the twelve branches used to designate years, stands tall at the Central Square and serves as an eye-catching landmark of the park. There is a bronze cast illustration of the sundial shadow on the ground surface under the golden rooster.
Kaohsiung Metropolitan Park is under the administration of Construction and Planning Agency, Ministry of the Interior and used to be a landfill. Today, the trees and flowers are luxuriant and well-spaced in the park, the grassland is emerald green, and the entire park looks as good as any other park in foreign countries. For A Better Taiwan lecture series as well as other activities, such as nature observation by parents and children together, are often held in the park on holidays.
