Taiwan's first purely handmade saxophone was created by Mr. Chang, Lien-Chang. Mr. Chang accidentally came across a burned and destroyed saxophone. Based on his knowledge of fine brushwork, he set out to learn how to make a saxophone. Little by little, from self-study, research, and drawings of the musical instrument's parts, he accomplished what seemed impossible—creating the first Made-in-Taiwan saxophone from scratch—and later made Houli a town well known for its saxophone production.

The Lien-Chang Musical Instrument Factory (Chang, Lien-Chang Saxophone Museum) was established by Mr. Chang's grandchildren decades after he passed away to commemorate his contribution of giving Taiwan a firm place in the history of musical instrument making. Among the museum's collection are a basso saxophone engraved with "LIEN CAN" on its surface and an old saxophone made in the forties. The museum also demonstrates the different steps of saxophone-making and Mr. Chang's calligraphy works.
