The Sichongxi Hot Spring Area is northeast of Checheng Township on the Hengchun Peninsula in Pingtung County, about 32 km east along County Route 199. Discovered during the Qing Dynasty’s Guangxu era, the area’s natural hot springs flow from sedimentary rock, originally earning it the name "Chutang" or "spring emergence." Located in a mountain basin with rivers running through it, early residents crossed a four-tiered river path, inspiring the nickname "Sichongxi" (meaning "four-tiered stream").
Renamed "Hot Spring Village" in 1950, Sichongxi is known for its clear, alkaline carbonate spring water, ideal for bathing. Temperatures peak in March and April and cool slightly in summer and fall.
