The Yeheng Terraces are a slope located in the southwest of Baling bordering the Yufeng River and overlooking Sanguang Village. When the Japanese government promoted rice growing in the slope area during the Japanese Colonial Era, Atayal villagers were mobilized to cultivate terraces from near the peak to the river valley. The total length of the more than 1200 layers of terraces was 1000m. These terraces brought not only a stable life to the villagers but also a new life to the natural landscape in the area. Looking at these terraces from a distance, they are well arranged and coherent. Walking inside, urbanites will surely long for such a kind of rural life.
In Yeheng Village, terraces stretch to the river valley layer by layer. When looking at the great green crops and the tidily arranged terraces, people must be captivated by the view resembling the mystical arcadia of western culture or the peach blossom spring in the Chinese culture. As the terraces are located in a controlled mountain area, visitors must apply for a Type A Mountain Entry Permit before they can visit there to enjoy this rare and wondrous view.
Visitors can taste the unique matchmaker guava in Taiwan here. The guava has a red pulp and crispy sweet taste. The harvest season is around September to November every year. So you must not miss it.
