Curiously named San Diego in the old days, Sandiaojiao is located at the easternmost tip of Taiwan. Thus, it is famous for owning the first ray of the Sun of a year in Taiwan.

Facing the Pacific Ocean, Sandiaojiao Lighthouse sends out one white flash and one red flash consecutively every 28 seconds. At night, it serves as the beacon of nearby ships. Thus, it is nicknamed as “the eye of Taiwan.” The lighthouse is also a popular tourist destination, featuring a pure white building, a football-shaped radar, a Greek-style pavilion, and a heart-shaped artistic installation. There is even an arched church by the lighthouse adapted from an old kerosene warehouse. The church’s old-school wooden gate and colorful glass windows make it look sweet and romantic. Many brides and grooms come to make wedding photos here. Photographers and fans of the Sunrise also gather up here to enjoy panoramic birds-eye-views.

Open Hours

Daily from 09:00 to 16:00 except on Mondays, the Lunar New Year’s Eve and the Lunar New Year.
