Sitting at an elevation of between 600 to 2,600 meters above sea level, Xuejian Recreation Area enjoys abundant rainfall and is often enshrouded in the clouds and mist. The Xuejian Visitor Center here has an exhibit area and multimedia room with daily, fixed-time showings of videos on the natural ecology at Shei-Pa National Park. The Beikeng River Historic Trail offers an excellent view of the Holy Ridge (the ridge-line from Dabajian Mountain to Xue Mountain). In the winter, one can see the snow-capped ridge of Xue Mountain, hence the name "Xuejian," literally "see the snow." The forest trail here is about 920 meters long. It is formed by two main wood-planked sections and a section separating pedestrian and vehicle traffic. The trail is easy to walk and is a good way to experience the mid-elevation broad-leaved forest landscape in the Xuejian area. Note: Visitors need to apply for a mountain entry permit to enter the Xuejian area.
