The National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts opened on October 13, 2018. It was designed by Dutch architect Francine Houben, who was inspired by the shape of banyan trees. It has the world’s largest performing arts theater under one roof.

The Center sits on 9.9 hectares, with the building occupying 3.3 hectares. It is adjacent to the 47-hectare Weiwuying Metropolitan Park. Surrounded by an expanse of greenery, the Center has a streamlined appearance with smooth arcs. It is very cleverly integrated with its surrounding environment. Visitors from around the world can enter and exit at will, removing the barriers between theater and life.

The concert hall has a unique vineyard style seating design, which places the audience at different heights to enjoy the best possible vision and sound. The seats surround the stage, allowing the audience to be closer and better enjoy the charm of the conductor and performers.

The Center’s outdoor theater is located to the south of the building, adjacent to the Weiwuying Metropolitan Park. It is an atypical theater space designed for enjoying diverse performances.
