Zhuntou, famous for wetland ecology, is also ideal for military fans. Retired arms, such as destroyers, bushmasters, and F5E fighter jet "Chungchgeng" were recently installed under Provincial Highway 61 Viaduct. Plan a visit to Zuntou Village Military History Park if you want to meet these battlefield heroes at close distance or imagine that you are a pilot yourself!
Every object on display here is full of stories. For instance, the F5E jet is crucial to maintaining peace between Taiwan and China. It was produced by Taiwan and the United States together to celebrate the 88th birthday of President Chiang Chung-chung. The jet is therefore also known as Jet Chungcheng.
If you are a military fan, you might know that the jet actually appeared in Top Gun, an iconic film. Standing in front of the 3m-tall military jet and imagining a thrilling air fight is a lot of fun.
M48A3, also coming from the United States, was a strong helper to Taiwan's army in the 1980s. On its side are an anchor and a propeller from USS Mullany which survived heavy attacks of Japan's Kamikaze in WWII. The ship has thus been nicknamed "the lucky ship." It is said that the captains of USS Mullany are much more likely to become generals than their counterparts. Other arms include LVT. P5-A1 used during the Second Taiwan Strait Crisis and 5"/38 caliber guns for aircraft carriers. The park presents war-time history in a truly thrilling way.
Other than the magnificent array of retired military planes and vehicles, the park's old decorations, such as stone lions and dragon pillars, have been retained. It has also been installed with children's facilities, health trails, and workout facilities. Plus the scenery and cartoon illustrations on the the viaduct beams, the park is a really comfy place to stay.
