Xinwu District of Taoyuan City is an important paddy rice town in northern Taiwan. During the Japanese Rule, seven rice barns and plants were built here to store rice.
The brick walls of the buildings are strengthened with mud mixed with grain powder or cement, along with suspended wood pillars connected through traditional methods without nails. This makes the precious architecture worthy of observation. Well-preserved, it shows people's early-day wisdom.
In 2007, through a renewal project, one of the old barns was adapted to be a rice museum. In it, a supermarket supported by the farmers' association, a shop featuring Taiwan's best agricultural products, a rice story center, a rice-milling centennial center, and a rice food center can be explored. The project has not only created new energy for the old barn. It helps to pass down culture through the educational facilities it has.
