Daxueshan Forest Area is rich in wood resources. The establishment of "Taiwan Daxueshan Forestry Corporation" started in 1956. Also, the construction of the large sawmill started in 1962, and was completed in 1964. It introduced advanced technology of logging and lumber-sawing, which became the model of forestry industry in Taiwan at the time. Nonetheless, the American logging equipment was not suitable for Taiwanese lumber, which cost huge loss of lumber. The logging operation in Daxueshan Forest Area was ceased at the end of December, 1973 as a result.
