Located on Zhongyi Street in Fongshan District, Kaohsiung, the Kaizhangshengwang Temple—also known as the Temple of the Sacred King, Founder of Zhangzhou—has stood for over 200 years since its founding during the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty. Alongside Shuangci Pavilion, the City God Temple, and Longshan Temple, it is recognized as one of the Four Great Ancient Temples of Fongshan.

The temple is dedicated to Chen Yuan-Guang, a revered Tang Dynasty official known for pacifying the Fujian region during Emperor Gaozong’s reign. Also honored here are General Ma Ren and General Li Bo-Yao, both significant figures in Chinese military history. In the main hall, visitors will find rare large-scale door god paintings of Qin Shubo and Yu Chi Gong, masterfully created by national treasure-level painter Pan Lishui. These works have been registered as national antiquities, underscoring their exceptional cultural and artistic value.

Though the temple has undergone multiple renovations over the centuries, it still preserves many finely crafted stone carvings and traditional architectural details. Its grand structure and solemn ambiance reflect a deep sense of antiquity and spiritual reverence. Today, it remains a vital center of local worship and is considered one of the largest Kaizhangshengwang Temples in Taiwan.

The spacious plaza in front of the temple serves as a lively venue for cultural performances, competitions, and even wedding celebrations. For visitors, Tuesdays offer a special treat—right next to the temple, the Wensheng Night Market comes alive with delicious street food and vibrant local culture, offering a feast for both the senses and the spirit.
