Constructed in 1910, the Hualien Port Lighthouse is situated on Huagang Mountain within Hualien Harbor. Presenting the structure of a tall, square steel framework, it was originally an iron light pole relocated from the Anping light pole. With a pole height of merely 10 meters, the original structure suffered from insufficient height and weak luminosity, making it difficult for vessels out at sea to spot. In 1964, the lighthouse was reconstructed into its current form using materials from the dismantled Fugui Cape temporary lighthouse, successfully increasing its tower height to the present 28.4 meters. Due to the excellent vantage point and clear visibility of the Hualien Port Lighthouse's location, its optical apparatus is considerably smaller than those found in other steel-tower-style lighthouses.
The interior of the lighthouse grounds is not open to the public. (Exterior viewing available year-round)
