Completed in 1882, the Beiding Island Lighthouse is located at the summit of Beiding Island in Kinmen County. It is a white, circular brick lighthouse. The lighting apparatus at the top of the Beiding Island Lighthouse was destroyed during World War II. In 1947, a triangular iron frame was installed to hold the light. In 1986, the original tower body was renovated, and the lighting apparatus was moved from the iron frame back to the top of the original tower. Beiding Island is narrow from east to west and elongated from north to south, with reefs gently extending into the sea at both the northern and southern ends. Consequently, the surrounding waters become extremely dangerous during high tides or strong gales, which led to the construction of this lighthouse.
