Built in 1980, Keelung Islet Lighthouse stands atop the summit of Keelung Islet, located in the sea northeast of Keelung Harbor. Designed by Taiwanese engineers, the octagonal concrete tower features an appearance of alternating vertical black and white stripes and holds the distinction of being the first solar-powered lighthouse in Taiwan. Located just 4,500 meters from Keelung Harbor, the lighthouse, alongside Heping Island, serves as the gateway for ships entering and leaving the port.
Rugged natural scenery remains visible all around Keelung Islet, and while the surrounding area is scattered with numerous reefs, they present a myriad of spectacular postures. Consequently, the Keelung City Government has installed ocean-view wooden walkways and hiking trail railings on the islet. Since 1992, it has been designated as an important scenic tourism destination.
