Established in 1956, the Qiuzishan Lighthouse was the first lighthouse entirely designed and constructed by domestic engineers. Located at the summit of Qiuzishan Mountain on the west bank of Keelung Harbor, it features a white, square concrete tower. It was built specifically to align perfectly with the Keelung Lighthouse, guiding vessels safely into the harbor while avoiding "HSIN LAI ROCK" (submerged reef) outside Keelung Harbor. In 1991 , after HSIN LAI ROCK was cleared by blasting, the lighthouse's functions were superseded by nearby lighthouses and light beacons, leading to a suspension of its light operations.
Due to its strategic military location, the tower was once repainted in camouflage green to meet military defense needs. It was later repainted back to its original white color in 2018.
