The TRA (Taiwan Railways Administration) Old Mountain Line was completed in 1908, creating a magnificent and classic masterpiece featuring the "steepest gradient, sharpest curve, longest steel truss bridge, and longest tunnel complex." The entire 15.9-kilometer line passes through 3 iron bridges, 4 stations, and 8 tunnels. Shengxing Station, at an altitude of 402.3 meters, is the highest point of the West Coast Line railway.

Operations on the Old Mountain Line ceased in 1998. The railway technology, forest landscapes, and cultural scenery along its route remain rich. To diligently preserve and revive historical monuments, the Miaoli County Government has committed to the preservation and innovation of the Old Mountain Line's railway cultural assets. By utilizing a dynamic preservation approach to revitalize the idle tracks, they created Taiwan's first-ever Railbike, "Old Mountain Line Rail Bike." This successfully established a brand-new travel model using a diversified, low-carbon, environmentally friendly, and healthy mode of transportation. In addition to experiencing the beauty of the Old Mountain Line, visitors can also drop by Sanyi to experience Hakka culture and the unique atmosphere of an International Slow City.

As a nationwide pioneer in a new model of railway cultural experiences, the Old Mountain Line Rail Bike has been recognized with seven major awards at the 19th Golden Thumb Awards by the Ministry of Finance, as well as the 5th Government Service Award by the Executive Yuan.
