The Hengshan Calligraphy Art Center is Taiwan's first modern and contemporary art museum themed around calligraphy art. It is situated along the pond waterfront of Dayuan, Taoyuan, an area historically known as "Hengshan." The architectural inspiration is drawn from the simple and serene Zen atmosphere found in Eastern calligraphy. Grounded in the concept of grinding ink in an inkstone, the park is envisioned as the "inkstone," the architectural volumes symbolize the "seals," and the pond echoes the "ink pool." With "wandering" as the central theme of its landscape design, it shapes an open venue that coexists with nature and dialogues with the environment.
The center features exhibition halls and a calligraphy art lecture hall. Its exhibition programming explores calligraphy art from different perspectives, connecting traditional threads with contemporary horizons, allowing visitors to appreciate the beauty of calligraphy art. The architecture was recognized with the First Prize at the 2022 Taiwan Architecture Awards and the Gold Winner at the FIABCI World Prix d'Excellence Awards.
