The Shitan River, the source of Mingde Reservoir, turns westward at Baishou and cuts through the Bajiaodong Mountain Range, forming a deep and steep canyon stream. It was formerly known as the "Laotianliao River," and was renamed the Mingde River after the completion of the Mingde Reservoir. The lush and densely forested catchment area conserves a quite rich and stable volume of water.
The Mingde Reservoir features a lake surface area of 200 hectares and a lake length of 8 kilometers. It contains three islands: Rixin, Yuanyang, and Haitang. A large number of freshwater fish are bred and released into the lake for tourists to enjoy angling. In addition to possessing rich ecological resources and beautiful mountain and water scenery, visitors can also taste the famous specialty of Touwu—Mingde Tea—at this location.
