Originally named Minong Lake, Zhongzhen Lake, and Zhongzheng Lake, Meinong Lake was built in 1748. Located next to Minquan Road in the northeast of Meinong, it is the second-largest lake in Kaohsiung City. It was originally an irrigation reservoir that collected water from Qiangziliaoxi and Dakengxi during the summer to irrigate farmland during the dry season. However, sediment continuously brought by Qiangziliaoxi and Dakengxi formed several sandbars where abundant aquatic plants grew. Due to minimal human disturbance, it became an ideal habitat for birds. During the winter when migratory birds fly south, the lake surface is filled with birds passing through or wintering here.
Meinong Lake features a comprehensive lake-encircling walking path and cycling lane. The east side of Meinong Lake has been newly planted with a variety of tree species, including pink shower trees (Peltophorum pterocarpum / Cassia bakeriana), bald cypruses, water willows, royal poincianas, and chinaberries, alongside flowering shrubs and aquatic plants. This enables Meinong Lake to function as both an ecological education space and a flood detention pond.
