Alishan Range

Elevation
2,663m
Average Height
2,000m
Length
225km

The Alishan Range is located west of the Yushan Range, and the two ranges are divided by Nanzihsiian River. The Alishan Range begins in the north at the south bank of the Zhuoshui River in Jiji Township, Nantou County and ends at Jiguanshan in Yanchao District, Kaohsiung City. The range runs from north north-east to south south-west. The average altitude of Alishan Range is around 2,000 meters. The highest point is in the middle of the range at Datashan (2,663 meters) near the home of the Pnguu tribe in the Alishan National Scenic Area. As a major fault goes through the east side of the Alishan Range, the terrain is steep on the east side and flat on the west side. Therefore, the terrain is steep and imposing when viewed from the valley of Chenyoulan River and Hoshe River in the east, while its mountains have low to middle altitude to the south of the Zhuoshui River.
