Set on a coastal slope in Northern Taiwan, Pa Li International Golf Course is the only layout in Taiwan designed by legendary South African golfer and course designer Gary Player. The design fully absorbs the beauty of the natural landscape with 18 holes running through a relatively moderate terrain which leans towards the sea. The result is a round of golf enriched by a spectacular blend of sea and sky.
Pa Li International Golf Course features a track measuring a moderate 6,142 yards. With few trees around the fairways, the layout offers a European links style design. However, when the wind blows from the coast, the course immediately becomes much more difficult and menacing, posing tests to accuracy and distance control.
The front nine is built on an area with mild undulations. Longer than the back nine, these holes are into the wind and may affect the ball’s direction. Besides the wind, a lot of other factors are in play in the front nine, making it difficult to control the ball. Windward direction also makes distance judgment crucially important. The back nine stretches along a hilly area where the wind plays a lesser role. As a result, golfers don’t have to take the wind into account until they reach the 15th. Even though the back nine has shorter yardage and less wind, golfers should still be cautious of the numerous water traps because it can generate enormous mental pressure.
