Taiwan Golf & Country Club is the first and oldest golf course in Taiwan established on June 1, 1919. It was given the nickname "Old Tamsui Course" because it exists for nearly a hundred years at the hilly area near the mouth of the Tamsui river.
As the most historic layout in Taiwan, the golf course is arguably the origin of the golf sport in Taiwan. In fact, it is also favorite training and playing area of the prestigious Taiwanese golfers such as Lu Liang-huan, who yielded brilliant results at the British Open; and Tu Ai-yu, a legendary name in Japanese golf. Other famous golfers who plays at Taiwan Golf & Country Club also include Hsieh Min-nan, Hsieh Yung-yo, Kuo Chie-hsiung, Hsu Sheng-san, Ho Ming-chung, Huang Yueh-chyn, Lu Hsi-chuen, Lu Chien-soon, Wang Ter-chang, Hsieh Yu-shu, Chen Liang-his, Hsieh Chin-sheng, Yeh Chang-ting, Yeh Wei-tze, Lu-wei-chih, and Teresa Lu.
Located in the foothills of Datun Mountain facing the Guanyin Mountain across Tamsui River, Taiwan Golf & Country Club offers a par-72, 18-hole standard layout which is highly challenging due to the strong winds sweeping through from Taiwan Strait and the river mouth as well as the century-old dense forest on both sides of the fairways. Accuracy and decent ball control are required for a good score. Players will also find it relaxing and carefree soaking up the beauty of the clouds over Datun Mountain and mists around Guanyin Mountain while dealing with the varied fairway challenges.
