Anping Lighthouse was built as a western-style lighthouse in 1909. It was originally a round white-painted brick structure located in Anping Fort. Sandbars in Anping Harbor and the changing course of the waterway pushed the lighthouse progressively farther from the coast. The functionality of the lighthouse further diminished with the planting of light-obscuring windbreak trees along the coast, leading to the lighthouse's closure in March 1960. In 1965, it was rebuilt as a square tower on the beach outside the harbor, where it continues to play an important function in navigation today.
