Dajia Wharf is located on the left bank of Keelung River in Yuanshan, known as the auspicious Yuanzishan of Dalongdong in the old days. Since Keelung River passes through, ocean water used to come in and out this swampy place. Yuanshan Archeological Site and shell mounds are evidence of human occupancy earlier on here. Also, the nearby area of Jiantan acquired its name because the Prince of Yanping slashed a sword into a pond there. During the Japanese Rule, the Japanese built a shrine and a garden on the west of today's National Revolutionary Martyrs' Shrine by the Grand Hotel. This shows that the place is geographically important.
