The Mt. Wuzhi Hiking Trail is challenging, so check the forest conditions before the trip.
Mt. Wuzhi is a branch of the Xueshan Range. It is at the junction of Zhudong Township, Beipu Township, and Wufeng Township in Hsinchu County. The five peaks are connected and look like five fingers, hence the Name. Mt. Wuzhi has beautiful scenery and rich ecology, and people once selected it as one of Taiwan's twelve best scenic spots.
There are two main hiking trails in Mt. Wuzhi, and you can choose freely with different difficulty levels.
There are two main hiking trails in Mt. Wuzhi and several trail entrances. Evaluating the route based on the local forest conditions before the trip is best. The first is the more complex "Mountaineering Trail," which starts from the Zhulin Buddhist Temple and is suitable for climbers with essential mountaineering experience who want to see the beautiful scenery from the thumb to the little finger (peak). The second is the "Horizontal Trail" for family participation, which starts from Guanyin Temple and is suitable for leisure tourists. Its slope is relatively gentle, and it can pass the famous landmarks of Golden Turtle Rock and Monkey Cave Line of Sky while winding around the mountainside.
With many temples, it is a good place for worship, mountain climbing, and other activities.
Many temples include Zaojun (Kitchen God) Hall, Pangu Temple, Jade Palace Temple, Wufeng Temple, and Guanyin Zen Temple near the mountainside. Among them, Zaojun Hall is the oldest and one of the few temples in Taiwan that mainly worships Zaojun. Zaojun is the god in charge of the kitchen and food. Every year, on the third day of the eighth lunar month, which is Zaojun's birthday, many believers come to worship with desserts such as glutinous rice balls and mochi, which are very lively. Above Zaojun Hall is the "Pangu Temple," which worships Pangu, the great emperor who created the world.
Beautiful rocks are on both sides of the trail at Golden Turtle Rock and Line of Sky.
Upon entering the entrance of the Guanyin Temple Trail and walking up about 600 meters, you will see golden moss covering a stone resembling a turtle, known as "Golden Turtle Rock." Continuing towards the Monkey Cave Trail, every 100 meters, a cute stone monkey stands at its feet, appearing in various shapes such as not looking, not listening, not speaking, and not moving. The "Line of Sky" is at the back, with a height of 34 meters and a width that only allows one person to pass through, making the tall rock wall even more magnificent.
