Bridge Aesthetics—The Serenade of the Midnight Dancer Inspired by the beautiful sunset scenery, the graceful rhythm of dancers, and a religious tribute to Guanyin Mountain, the Zaha Hadid team proposed an impeccable solution that integrates architectural art and engineering technology, allowing this unique cable-stayed bridge to be situated at the Tamsui River estuary, a place where culture and talent flourish. The bridge tower implies the meaning of putting hands together in prayer, conveying the concept of blessing Taiwan, extending upward like a phoenix reborn from the ashes, soaring toward the sky with wings raised! Considering the variation in bedrock depth at the Tamsui River estuary, the harmony with the surrounding environment, and the sunset scenery, a single-tower asymmetric cable-stayed bridge structural design was adopted. The position of the bridge tower is biased toward the Tamsui side, further highlighting the mutual radiance between the Danjiang sunset and the Guanyin Mountain scenery.
In the Quiet Night, Dancing Serenely During the design of the Danjiang Bridge, full consideration was also given to the responsiveness of the bridge body's appearance to the surrounding environment during three different time periods: sunset, dusk, and night. When the sun sets, the light poles are bathed in a warm amber glow, presenting a subtle color gradient effect; the intersection between the light poles and the bridge deck is slightly bright, and as the light poles gradually extend upward, their tops will slowly fade out, as if disappearing into the night, just like the rays of the setting sun slowly vanishing into the sky. At dusk, the underside of the central part of the bridge deck is illuminated by light sculpture lighting, and the fluid shape of the entire bridge body in the horizontal direction is elegantly reflected on the water surface. At night, the light poles and the underside of the bridge deck will be illuminated; the light poles are bathed in soft light, forming a halo at the top; the entire bridge presents a fascinating calligraphy effect, which can instantly leave a deep impression in people's minds, showcasing the charm possessed by a landmark bridge. The bridge lighting design cooperates with different seasons to show different lighting color tones; for instance, it is dominated by warm color systems in winter, while refreshing color tones are used in the hot summer to achieve a balance with the environment, shaping different facets of the bridge.
Cherishing and Maintaining the "Danjiang Sunset" Tamsui possesses a unique cultural history and urban style, and the "Danjiang Sunset" is one of the Eight Views of Tamsui. Whenever the sun sets, the brilliant and graceful setting sun reflects on the river surface, and the sky is dyed into a magnificent golden orange and vibrant tangerine, appearing even more spectacular when paired with layered clouds and mists. The design of the Danjiang Bridge optimizes the bridge body to avoid visual obstruction to the surrounding landscape. The changes in light and shadow generated on each facet of the bridge tower further highlight the charm of the Danjiang sunset, preserving the vastness and sunset views of the Tamsui River estuary for northern Taiwan and its surrounding residents.
