DAY1: Taipingshan National Forest Recreation Area

Yulan
Jhongjian Visitors Center
Jiancing Historic Trail
Jiancing Historic Trail
The Jianqing Historic Trail was rebuilt from part of the Jianqing Line Lumber Transportation Track. The entrance is at the 23km mark of Taipingshan Yizhuan First Line. On a sunny day, one can see the Lanyang Plain and the lofty peaks along the Holy Ridgeline in the distance. Seas of clouds beautiful like poetry can often be seen in the afternoon. Sometimes, after being caught in the fog for a long while, one can't help but long for the sun. That is where the name "Jianqing (seeing the sun)" comes from. The Jianqing Line Lumber Transportation Track was about 5.5km originally. The trail runs along the winding track. Walking on the flat and smooth trail, one has an unhindered view of the surroundings and also can see the old rails, skids, trolley axles and deserted workers' dwellings.
Cypress Forest Trail
Cypress Forest Trail
The Yuanshilin Trail is in the Virgin Forest Park, the virgin red cypress forest behind Taipingshan Villa. The forest kept to conserve water for the villa has become a wonderful spot for forest bathing.
Taiwan Hemlock Forest Nature Trail
Taiwan Hemlock Forest Nature Trail
Taiwan Hemlock Forest Nature Trail is situated within the mid-altitude coniferous forest and broadleaf forest transition zone. Due to its high-elevation terrain and with it facing the ocean currents, vapors would condense here and give yearlong permeating clouds and mists in this earthly paradise. It is also the water source for Taipingshan Villa. Starting point of the Trail is behind the Forest Park at the top of Taipingshan Villa, so the visitors going to the Trail would have to pass through the four-hundred-step central stairs by the Villa, where year-round maples – Green Maples are grown on both sides, which have turned the stairs into a breathtakingly beautiful red tunnel.

Day2: Cueifong Lake Circular Trail, Taiwan Beech Trail

Cueifong Lake Circular Trail
Cueifong Lake Circular Trail
Cueifong Lake Circular Trail surrounds Taiwan's largest high-mountain lake and was built along the old logging railway, thereby offering the most spectacular sceneries of four seasons– spring bath of renewed greens, summer washing of rains and fogs, fall appreciation of red leaves, and winter views of white snow. Cueifong Lake is situated at an elevation of 1,840m, which spans an area of 25 hectares during rainy season and is Taiwan’s largest high-mountain lake. Visitors at Cueifong Lake would be amazed by its everchanging sceneries during dawn and dusk, as well as its varying but equally mesmerizing views of four seasons.
Taiwan Beech Trail
Taiwan Beech Trail
The trail begins by Cueifong Villa in the Taipingshan National Forest Recreation Area, Yilan County. A round trip takes about 3 hours. Along the way, one can see the ecology of various animals, slate rock walls, green moss, Taiwan red cypress forests, Japanese cedar forests, Taiwan cherry forests, milestones, workers’ dwellings, railroad switches and other traces of railroad development. In the last section, visitors can see the largest virgin beech forest in Taiwan, taking up 900 hectares of land. The new green sprouts come out in spring and turn into a sea of lush green in summer. As time passes, the yellow leaves reflecting golden sunlight in autumn start to fall in winter and the trees turn bare. The scenery changes and has a different appeal in each season.

Sitting in the open-air carriage of Bon Bon Train, visitors can appreciate the splendid sceneries of mountains and forests at a close distance.
