The Chimei Museum was established by entrepreneur Shi Wen-lung, the founder of Taiwan’s Chimei Group. It is Taiwan’s largest private museum, and it focuses on Western art, musical instruments, weaponry, and natural history. It is designed for young and old. A place of beauty, it provides a spiritual haven for the people.

The museum has an excellent collection of Western art, and the three major exhibit areas on this theme are Art Hall, Sculpture Avenue and Rodin Hall. They trace the development of Western art. The violin collection in the Musical Instrument Hall is perhaps the best in the world in terms of quality and quantity. The Arms and Armor Hall displays ancient weapons from around the world. The Natural History and Fossils Hall contains animal and fossil specimens from five continents. More than 4,000 items are on display in the museum at any one time, which is approximately one-third of the museum’s entire collection.

The Chimei Museum lies within the Tainan Metropolitan Park. Echoing the theme of Western Art, the campus is imbued with classical Western aesthetics, providing a diverse barrier-free space that combines landscaping and leisure.
