Shiyilou is characterized by a long open hallway that links up two attics. Since Lukang was a famous cultural town in the early years, poets and writers liked to gather up at Shiyilou to discuss literature, drink wine, or look at the Moon while sipping tea. It is said that the owner of Shiyilou was a learned gentleman. To allow his guests to appreciate the night on high floors, he designed the long open hallway for them.
